Parents can volunteer to act as class representatives for one year (and often two or three parents do this at the same time).
This chiefly involves the following:
- co-ordination of end of term gifts for staff
- organising rotas for class stalls at Summer and Xmas Fairs
- organising social events (coffee mornings and evening meals) for parents
- drumming up support among parents for the various PTA events
- collecting voluntary donations towards the Xmas Fair
- attending monthly Committee meetings on a rotational basis
- acting as a conduit of information between parents and Committee
- maintaining a class contact list.
Apart from being a great way to get involved in the PTA, it’s an excellent way of getting to know all the parents in your year. Organising a parents’ help rota for events where a class is responsible for a particular stall (as for the Summer and Christmas Fairs) is also part of the role and organising occasional social events for parents can be fun, especially when starting in Reception or when a new child joins.
